The Friday Refrain: Your Weekly New Music Digest
Maybe I should call it the weekend refrain... Anyway, this week Fall Out Boy is back! with M A N I A. Ought Rockers The Shins return with The Worms Heart which is last year's LP flipped: slow songs are fast, fast songs are slow and the order of tracks is reversed. Swoony singer-Songwrter Glen Hansard released Between Two Shores, while on the opposite spectrum of singer-songwriterdom is the rocking Ron Gallo's Really Nice Guys EP. Let's go a little folksy with the swedish sisters of First Aid Kit and their new album Ruins. Joe Perry of Aerosmith releases Sweetzerland Manifesto this week. And it's been a long hard road but Phillip Phillps is done with the legal troubles and is back with Collateral. Finishing out the solo singer category is tUnE-yArDs' I Can Feel You Creep Into My Private Life. Moving onto the indie rock area we have Moon Taxi and Let The Record Play. Electronic dance act De Lux release their third album More Disco Songs About Love while Brit rockers Belle & Sebastian bring about the sequel in their triptych with How To Solve Our Human Problems Part Two. The Go! Team, who are kinda crazy and fun, are back with Semicircle. Finally Chick Corea teams up with his old Return to Forever drummer on the release of Chinese Butterfly.
Once again the lists aren't compiling yet and I'm still working my way through 2017 to try to get a good organized hold on the world for once. I'm planning a roundup of January releases at the end of the month or beginning of February though. Also, I'm totally tallying up the self-titled releases of 2017 and making a monthly comparison to this year because it really seemed ridiculous last year. Since I'm dusting off last year's January releases let's just take a stroll through memory lane...
A year ago from this month...

- The Flaming Lips, Oczy Mlody
- Surf Curse, Nothing Yet
