The Friday Refrain: Your Weekly New Music Digest

Welcome to the weekend - let's hit up the newbies to the release shelf, shall we? Tis the season for Bob Dylan to release another bootleg so we have Trouble No More: The Bootleg Series 1979-1981. We're going to stay on the folksy side to highlight a personal favorite, Blitzen Trapper out with Wild And Reckless which began as a stage production earlier this year. Plus Billy Bragg released Bridges Not Walls. We'll scootch over to the country side of things with the self-titled Lee Brice and Blake Shelton's Texoma Shore, oh and Kid Rock's Sweet Southern Sugar. Shamir returns with Revelations (and one of those album covers that makes me want to toss the thing as far away from as possible).  Then we've got some pop: Maroon 5's Red Pill Blues and Sam Smith with The Thrill of it All. Let's round off the newbies with something a little more up my alley, a little harder shall we? Anti-Flag return with American Flag and Moonspell released 1755.

Last Week's List is only 92 albums long but it is aggregated and genrefied by me! (feels like I missed a lot - under 100 in this time of year is kinda weird)

Time for me to have some fun with last week's albums and pair things together in lists that are silly

Over Through Above Below Around

  • Majid Jordan, The Space Between
  • OverDoz., 2008
  • Stereophonics, Scream Above the Sounds

Me me me

  • Yo Gotti, I Still Am
  • Mø, When I Was Young
  • Hanging Garden, I Am Become
  • Gregory Porter, Nat King Cole & Me

These albums are a little bossy...

  • Gord Downie, Introduce Yerself
  • Saràyah, Feel The Vibe
  • Curtis Harding, Face Your Fear
  • Julien Baker, Turn out the Lights

And if all else fails, there's always water

  • Not Waving, Good Luck
  • Powerman 5000, New Wave
  • Weezer, Pacific Daydream
  • Prides, A Mind Like The Tide: Part One

All right well I had my fun and now that's done. I know I tried to separate out the To-Listen 5 and the Friday Refrain last week and it didn't happen, so try try again. This week it'll be the To-Listen 10 of sorts I think. Anyway, until then - Happy Listening!
