The Friday Refrain: A bit of what's new in music...
Happy Halloween! And due to the impending holiday, I will be cutting this short in order to construct a wee costume from the magic of my crafty room. When the coffee kicks in.
Today we have Bryan Adams and Get Up!. Of Phish, Trey Anastasio is running on Paper Wheels. Dillatronic is a posthumous release of previously unheard material from rapper and producer J Dilla. Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings have a holiday album this year, It's A Holiday Soul Party. I haven't been mentioning holiday releases because I'll be putting all in one special holiday edition, but I just love Sharon Jones and had to mention it. Steve Martin & Edie Brickell team up for So Familiar. Maynard (of Tool) and his band Puscifer are back to shanigans with Money Shot. Not for the timid of ear that band. You know, NSFW if you work in the standard cookie cutter American dream job. Almost done, one more celebrity who can actually do music with Seth Macfarlane's No One Ever Tells You album of jazziness.
Okay, so last week, let's see...
need something to work out some aggression? Try Some Nerve, Sense of Control
A little playful Halloweenesque music? (it's kinda Jarvis Cocker on the first one, and then other things later but odd and weird are definitely good descripters) The Mystery Fax Machine Orchestra, Supernatural Aid
It's one of those weeks I didn't take good notes so
Things I'll be giving further listens
Born of Osiris, Soul Sphere - metal
Petal, Shame - Sparse but interesting. Singer-songwriter maybe? I haven't looked to see if it's one or many. Anyway, that's why it's on the to-listen
Sidony Box, Here Comes A New Challenger - Jazz. I think it's been a week or two, about when I throw one onto the pile to spice up my life.
Dexter Story, Wondem - It's interesting. I don't know what to think yet. I'm listening. And thinking it might be one (read on to finish sentence)
I bet Josh picks for Half Pints next week
(he doesn't read this anymore, so I feel like this is kind of funny to do.)
Chic Gamine, Light A Match
Seinabo Sey, Pretend
Those are another two I bet he picks. We'll see. Oh I hope I'm right. But then I also feel like he may not know these happened, so I feel like I should tell him but then that would influence him.... Conundrum. Ih, it's time to go make costumes happen! And happen they shall. The coffee didn't kick in but I just gotta do it. Well I hope you have fun getting candy and enjoying the awesomeness that is a Halloween on a Saturday. Happy Listening!
